Syrian Authorities open a Second Court Room at the SSSC

The Syrian Human Rights Committee (SHRC) has expressed its deep concern at the decision made by the Syrian Authorities to open a second court room at the unconstitutional SSSC. The SHRC media spokesman has said, “this measurement is a clear proof of the appalling deterioration of the human rights situation in Syria, and of the determination of the authorities in relying on oppressive, as opposed to normal law.” The spokesman also said, “The SSSC does not even provide the minimal degree of human rights to those who stand before it, and its sentences are influenced by the intelligence, while they are unchallengeable and unappealable, resulting in much harm for those who are tried before it.”

The spokesman continued, saying, “the increase of activity in the SSSC is a proof of the large number of detainees and prisoners languishing in the intelligence interrogation branches and Sednaya Prison without trial. It is also a proof of the repressive activities of the intelligence, which arrests and detains citizens and forbids them of their rights which are guaranteed by the Syrian constitution, as well as criminalizing them and their reluctance to justify them.”

The spokesman concluded his press release by calling for the termination of the repressive and unconstitutional SSSC and an immediate end to the misuse of articles within the Syrian Constitution. The spokesman also called for all citizens to be given their full rights, and all those awaiting trial at the SSSC to be transferred to a normal just court in which they can be tried whilst enjoying their freedom and rights to defending themselves.
